Little people are small humanoid beings that are mentioned in mythologies around the world. Ata's osteology seems to give evidence for little people. In North Carolina, there is also a legend of the Cherokee little people, called "Moon people" who are said to be subterraneans. Santori's Alien Races also speaks of small extraterrestrial beings called the Ellinas who are the basis for "elven" lore.
Ata is the mummified remains of what looks like a 6-inch "space alien", but is in fact more human than not. The Atacama skeleton, nicknamed "Ata", was discovered in Chile’s Atacama Desert around 2003, and has gone through different hands and ownership since then.
Ata is the 6-inch (150 mm; 15 cm)-long skeletal remains of a human, with an indication of a small gap. No genes for dwarfism were found during the genetic analysis performed by Garry Nolan and his team. The Pediatric radiologist, Ralph Lachman, said that dwarfism could not account for all the features found in Ata. The Barcelona Radiographic evaluation report indicated that the proportion of the spine, and its extremities are "normal" in proportion to its body-size. According to Lachman, "this specimen does not fall under any known, to me, class of disorders or syndromes." The specimen is reported to have lived at least 6 to 8 years old, based on the examination of the epiphyseal plates in the knees.

“I can say with absolute certainty that it is not a monkey. It is human — closer to human than chimpanzees. It lived to the age of six to eight. Obviously, it was breathing, it was eating, it was metabolizing. It calls into question how big the thing might have been when it was born,” said Garry Nolan, director of stem cell biology at Stanford University’s School of Medicine in California.
Ata was featured in Steven M. Greer's Sirius (2013) as a candidate for extraterrestrial evidence. Greer also mentions that the reports from Ramon Navia-Osorio Villar and his associates who traveled to the Atacama region, had obtained information from local native peoples of sightings of UFOs, and very small living creatures fitting the general description of this "humanoid". There are also reports that other intact humanoids may be stored in various remote sites and locations. These reports have not been confirmed.
Ata may be evidence for the Ellinas, mentioned in Santori's Alien Races, humanoids (sharing very similar DNA and physiological systems) who are the basis for many of the mythologies surrounding "elves", and possibly "brownies" and "dwarfs". Note that Neanderthals are 99.5% genetically identical to humans, while chimpanzees are 98.8 percent identical to human DNA.
Maxim A. Makukov of the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute and Vladimir I. Shcherbak from the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University spent 13 years working for the Human Genome Project – a mission that hoped to map out human DNA. According to their research: "Our hypothesis is that a more advanced extraterrestrial civilisation was engaged in creating new life and planting it on various planets. Earth is just one of them." Makulov then said: “Sooner or later … we have to accept the fact that all life on Earth carries the genetic code of our extraterrestrial cousins and that evolution is not what we think it is.” What humans consider to be extraterrestrial, may be closer to the human DNA genome than we realize.
The Cherokee Indians tell that when they first came to the southeastern United States, they found many well-tended gardens but not the people who cared for them. Eventually, they discovered a group of people who lived underground and came out only at night to tend the gardens. They harvested the food and took it underground to their cities. These people were small, had blue skin and large black eyes. The sun rays were too harsh for them so they built their cities underground and only came out at night using the light of the moon. The Cherokee called them the “Moon People.”“
In the 1940s in Cullowhee, North Carolina, Cherokee territory, T. Walter Middleton was part of a work crew that uncovered three ancient little tunnels when digging out a basement beneath the McKee Building on the Western Carolina University (WCU) campus. Another native of the area, Johnny Clayton, said that miners working in mica mines just south of the WCU campus, were digging for mica when they happened onto preexisting "little tunnels".
